Adam Zampa Biography

An energetic and competitive legspinner, Adam Zampa’s journey to the Australian limited-overs squads began in 2016 following impressive performances for South Australia and the Melbourne Stars. His T20 prowess has made him a tough bowler to handle, employing subtle variations in pace, including a deceptive wrong’un and a straight ball to make up for not relying solely on significant turn. Off the field, he’s known for his colorful personality, but on the pitch, he focuses on control and clinical execution.

He showcased his skills during the 2016 T20 World Cup, securing five wickets with an economy rate of 6.27. His excellent performance continued with a six-wicket haul in the subsequent IPL. Although it took time for Zampa to solidify his spot in the Australian ODI and T20I teams, he eventually established himself as a regular player in 2019, participating in every game during successful tours to India and the UAE. His consistent play secured him a place in the 2019 World Cup squad and he emerged as Australia’s leading white-ball spinner.

Notably, Zampa was a pivotal figure in Australia’s victory in the 2021 T20 World Cup, finishing as the second-highest wicket-taker with 13 wickets from seven matches at an economy of 5.81.

His success in white-ball cricket has limited his opportunities in the first-class format. Zampa, following in the footsteps of his father Darren who played for New South Wales Country, initially started his career in New South Wales before moving to South Australia. He returned to Sydney for the 2020-2021 season with the hope of gaining more first-class experience.
