Pooran

Nicholas Pooran once again showcased his impressive batting skills, leading West Indies to a thrilling two-wicket victory over India in the second T20I on Sunday (August 6) in Guyana. This marked the second consecutive game where Pooran’s batting left a lasting impact.

In the series opener held in Trinidad, Pooran’s contribution of 41 runs proved vital in helping West Indies achieve a competitive total of 149 for 6. This ultimately led to their triumph by four runs. On the recent match day, the hosts found themselves in a precarious situation following the early dismissals of Brandon King and Johnson Charles by Hardik Pandya.

As the situation demanded, Nicholas Pooran stepped up to bat in the very first over. Undeterred, he wasted no time in unleashing powerful shots right from the outset, effectively keeping West Indies in the running. Displaying remarkable skill and composure, Pooran’s innings became a match-winning performance, as he scored 67 runs off 40 balls, including six fours and four sixes.

Nicholas Pooran Delighted with Performance!

After the game, Nicholas Pooran expressed his delight at contributing to West Indies’ victory, stating that he initially believed the game was almost won when he got dismissed in the 14th over. However, West Indies suffered a flurry of wickets, finding themselves at 129 for 8 after 16 overs until Akeal Hosein and Alzarri Joseph’s unbeaten partnership of 25 runs guided them to victory.

“I want to thank Jesus. I aim to perform and find satisfaction in my game. Honestly, I wanted to finish the match myself, but when I got out, I thought it was all over. Cricket is unpredictable, and we witnessed a dramatic turnaround,” said Nicholas Pooran upon receiving the Man of the Match award.

Expanding on his recent performances, the West Indies star clarified that his success wasn’t just a lucky streak. Before the ongoing series, he had also made a mark in the Major League Cricket for MI New York, delivering a blazing century in the final and securing the highest run-scorer title.

“I wouldn’t call this a mere purple patch. I have been putting in hard work, and it’s paying off. We experienced a consistent losing streak, and I even relinquished the captaincy to simply enjoy the game. Things are falling into place for me,” he said.

“I want to relish the game and continue entertaining the audience. The score didn’t matter as much to me as batting well and controlling the game. We used to such conditions here in Guyana, and the wicket seemed decent. Bowlers tend to deliver half-volleys, short balls, and full tosses, and it’s essential to capitalize on them,” Pooran added.
