Mohammad Nawaz Biography
Mohammad Nawaz embarked on his cricket journey at the age of 14, initially as a left-arm medium-fast bowler and middle-order batsman. He made a mark with an impressive all-round performance of 60 runs and a four-for against Sialkot in an inter-region Under-16 tournament in 2008. This outstanding display subsequently earned him a spot in Pakistan’s side for the International Under-15 Championship in the West Indies. While adapting to the slow pitches of the Caribbean, Nawaz seamlessly transitioned his bowling style to left-arm spin under the guidance of coach Ameer Akbar and team manager Haroon Rashid. This transformation facilitated his evolution into a skilled spin-bowling all-rounder.
Nawaz pursued his studies at the FG Boys School in Rawalpindi, but his passion for cricket led him to prioritize the sport over continuing his college education. Over the first four seasons following his first-class debut in 2012, Nawaz displayed his all-round prowess, amassing 1440 runs with three first-class centuries and seven half-centuries, along with taking 44 wickets at an average of 24.4.
His standout performances, further exemplified by his representation of Quetta Gladiators in the inaugural Pakistan Super League, resulted in him finishing as the tournament’s third-highest wicket-taker with 13 dismissals. This remarkable achievement subsequently paved the way for his well-deserved inclusion in Pakistan’s T20 squad for the 2016 Asia Cup in Bangladesh. A few months later, he earned a spot in the ODI side for the tour of England and Ireland.
