Aaron finch Biography
Aggressive Victorian batter Aaron James Finch emerged as the captain of Australia’s ODI and T20I teams, guiding his nation to a historic T20 World Cup triumph in 2021.
Finch’s explosive prowess is highlighted by his two T20I record scores: a monumental 172 against Zimbabwe in 2018, surpassing his earlier feat of 156 against England in 2013. While initially leading Australia’s T20I squad in 2014, the captaincy transitioned to Steve Smith before the 2016 T20 World Cup in India. Despite being the world’s top T20I batter then, Finch faced challenges to maintain his spot due to form struggles.
Amidst turmoil following the Newlands ball-tampering scandal in 2018, Finch was named permanent white-ball captain for Australia. He also entered Test cricket that year, displaying adaptability by scoring 62 and 49 in his debut against Pakistan in Dubai. However, a form slump led to his omission from the Test side during the 2018-19 home season.
Following a lean batting spell, Finch announced retirement from one-day cricket in 2022. As a fitting ODI finale, his retirement series culminated in Australia’s convincing 2-0 win over New Zealand.
Beginning with Victoria, Finch’s cricket journey included a first-class debut at 21 and securing a place in the Sheffield Shield. Amid obstacles, he had a nearly three-year gap between his second and third first-class centuries. Notably, his unbeaten 288 against New Zealand in 2015-16 was abandoned due to pitch conditions.
As a sought-after T20 specialist, Finch’s portfolio includes multiple IPL franchises and English clubs like Yorkshire and Surrey. A Melbourne Renegades mainstay in the BBL, he led them to their inaugural title in 2019.
